Romania's Education Ministry wants all pre-university education units to obtain sanitary authorization in the next four years, according to the Government's fiscal strategy for 2012-2014 obtained by MEDIAFAX.

According to the document, the ministry needs extra 2.5 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.0869) to complete over 2,200 investments currently in progress.

Data show most investments carried out in disadvantaged areas and small localities cannot be entirely financed by local budgets.

According to the strategy, the ministry will allot funds to finance investments that can be finished in 2011, mainly to schools which took over students from disbanded or reorganized units and to institutions financed directly by the ministry.

The ministry also wants to reduce the school abandonment rate from 16.3% in 2010 to 14.3% by 2014.

Regarding the university education sector, funds will go mainly to top universities.

The ministry estimates total expenses, including investments, will increase in 2012-2014. According to the state budget, expenses are estimated at RON6,451 million (of which RON1,013 million earmarked for investments) in 2012, at RON8,487 million (of which RON1,488 million for investments) in 2013 and at RON8,677 million (RON1,335 million for investments) in 2014.
